Inka Trail Short (2D/1N)

For people with little time to spare, this is a good alternative to get to know at least part of the famous Inca trail to Machupicchu. We begin our trek at a moderate altitude of 2,500 meters, going through a tropical rainforest; you will hike up for about ¾ of an hour until you reach the spectacular ancient ruins of Winay Wayna (Forever Young). Late in the afternoon, we will arrive to the Inti Punku (Gate of the Sun), the original entry to the mysterious “Lost City of the Incas”, Machupicchu.

You will take a bus down to Aguas Calientes where we spend the night in a hotel of your choice. The next day, hike up to the Pyramid shape Huayna Picchu escorted by your guide. Late afternoon we will take the train back to Cusco.

Departures: Daily.

Tour Itinerary:

DAY 1: Cusco – Wiñay Wayna – Aguas Calientes
Early morning, we will transfer from the hotel to the train station Ollantaytambo or Poroy (according to the train service requested vistadome or backpacker) for your train ride to Km. 106 (3 hours approx), where we get started on our trek. A professional bilingual guide will escort you. You will carry only a small daypack during your hike. We will walk about 4 hours (5 miles approx). You will see magnificent views of the glacier Veronica, across the Vilcanota River, and will pass through a waterfall in the cloud forest. Arriving at the ruins Wiñay Wayna (Forever Young), you’ll rest and have lunch as we enjoy the scenery, then climb to Inti Punku, from here is possible to appreciate the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu, then we will descend into Machu Picchu to take the bus to Aguas Calientes. We will arrive at Machupicchu by late afternoon. Overnight accommodation at the hotel of your choice in the town of Aguas Calientes, with time to relax at the local hot springs.

DAY 2: Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu
All day guided visit to the "Lost City of the Incas". Late afternoon train back to Cusco and transfer to your hotel. Early morning around 04:30 we will take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu ruins (it's worth it) and seeing the "Lost City of the Incas", we recommend you to take the first bus to have peaceful time alone and enjoy the sun rising and take unforgettable pictures. For about 2 hours you will be submerged in the Inca history and significance of the most interesting sites after which you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own or climb Huayna Picchu - the mountain that overlooks the ancient Inca city (allow a minimum of 1½ hours). By 11:00 Machu Picchu quickly fills up with tourists arriving by train and appears crowded by comparison with the early morning. You should be ready to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes around 1pm where we will have lunch in one of the many restaurants. Late afternoon take the train back to Ollantaytambo where a bus will be waiting to bring us back to Cusco.
