Lares / Machu Picchu (4D/3N)

The distance in this amazing and surely unforgettable trek is 33km (20.5 miles approx), is considered moderate difficult.

Tour Itinerary:

DAY 1: Cusco - Huarán - Cancha Cancha
We will pick you up from your hotel at 07:30 approx, leaving Cusco city and travelling by bus for the 1 hour and 40 minutes to reach Huaran (2840masl) a village located close to Urubamba where we will start the trek and our mule wranglers, mules and horses are waiting. We will hike for about 4 hours then we will be in Cancha Cancha village (3800masl) we will spend the night there.

DAY 2 : Cancha Cancha - Quishuarani
Early morning we leave Cancha Cancha and continue to Quishuarani, in the way we will appreciate Pachacutec Lake, Pitusiray snowcapped, glacial lakes rich in bird life and waterfalls, we will spend the night in Quishuarani village.

DAY 3 : Quishuarani - Cuncani- Lares (thermal baths) - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
Leaving Quishuarani we will walk about 3 hours to Abra Huillquijasa the second pass (4200masl). From here you will appreciate beautiful turquoise lakes, we will go down and take a break close to this lakes, after a short trek we will arrive to the bottom of the valley to Cuncani village, then we will keep walking for about 2 hours to the open air thermal springs in Lares.

At 1 pm we take the bus to go to Ollantaytambo, where you will have free time to explore Ollantaytambo ruins before taking the train to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the night.

DAY 4 : Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Aguas Calientes - Cusco
Early morning around 04:30 we will take one of the first buses up to Machu Picchu ruins (it's worth it ) see the "Lost City of the Incas", we recommend you this time to have peaceful time alone and enjoy the sun rising and take unforgettable pictures. For about 2 hours you will be submerged in the Inca history and significance of the most interesting sites after which you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own or climb Huayna Picchu - the mountain that overlooks the ancient Inca city (allow a minimum of 1½ hours). By 11:00 Machu Picchu quickly fills up with tourists arriving by train and appears crowded by comparison with the early morning.

You should be ready to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes around 1pm where we will have lunch in one of the many restaurants. Late afternoon take the train back to Ollantaytambo where a bus will be waiting to bring us back to Cusco.

  • A backpack with a change of clothes.
  • Sleeping bag (If you don’t have a sleeping bag, you could rent one).

  • Walking Shoes. Strong footwear, waterproof trekking boots recommended jogging shoes or sandals for a higher comfort while at camp.
  • Sweater and a jacket (warm clothes).
  • Water bottle and purification tablets.
  • Flashlight and batteries.
  • Hat or cap for sun protection, sunblock, after-sun cream, sunglasses.
  • Insect repellent (20% DEET or higher recommended).
  • Toiletries, towels and toilet paper.
  • Snacks: energy bars, raw fruits, etc.
  • Water bottle or a wáter container.
  • Cash in US$ and/or soles for souvenirs, drinks.
  • Handkerchiefs.
  • Swimsuit (if you wish to take a bath in the hot springs).
  • Original Passport, original ISIC International Student Identity Card (in case you have applied for a student discount).
  • Walking sticks or poles (rubber covers required in order not to damage archaeological sites).
  • Camera & Extra Film & Batteries / Charger.
